This anthology is intended for educational and learning purposes. The compilation of one hundred selection of verses is designed to serve as the text book for Three Year Degree Course students under Semester System across the Country. The selection is made as per the CBCS syllabus in English and Skill Enhancement Compulsory Course for Arts, Science and Commerce Streams. The poems are arranged in chronological order in three sections, British Poets starting from Sixteenth Century to the present day, a few representative American Poets of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century and Indian Poets writing since fifties. An intensive introduction to individual poets and explanatory notes on poems are the distinguishing features of this anthology, which shall be useful and helpful aids to the students not only in helping them to understand difficult poetic lines and allusions but also to the teachers in making them better comprehension and for references.
SHYAMSUNDAR PADIHARI, is a Retired Associate Professor of English. He did his Post Graduation in English from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack and his M.Phil from University of Kalyani (W.B.). He was awarded Ph. D. Degree by Berhampur University, Odisha. He was the recipient of UGC Teacher Fellowship. Padihari has to his credit published two books entitle (1) BLACK STATEMENTS: SYLVIA PLATH'S POETRY AND FICTION, (2) THE CRITICISM OF T.S. ELIOT AND IT'S CONTEMPORARY RELATIONS. His critical essays and articles have appeared in some of the leading journals including 'The Atlantic Literary Review' and 'Indian Literature'. He taught English Language and Literature in different colleges under Utkal University, F.M. University and North Orissa University for last 35 years. He is also supervising M. Phil and Ph.D. Scholars on Indian Writings in English, British and American Literature. Currently, he is working on Communicative English and Creative Writings.
