Meandering through the drudgery of an urban, technology dependent, working-class, non-descriptive life, you seek contours, colours and rain, in this sleepless neon-lit existence. Instead you find a flat, sun-scorched, burnt petrol-fumed nothingness. Every morning the front page news makes you wonder where we are headed. Your fist clench when you read about women being raped, children dying having eaten a simple mid-day meal laced with Phosphate. And yet a little flower growing on your tenth floor apartment balcony fills you up with inexplicable joy and hope.Happiness in the midst of despair, love in the times of hatred, compassion in the face of intolerance. These collection of poems, like bullets, pierce your conscience, question your beliefs and shake you out of your inertia.
While Neelav has been toying with the idea of writing original material since his college days, things took a serious turn since he discovered Charles Bukowski and then there was no looking back. Neelav firmly believes that art in general, and poetry in particular needs to hit you like a sledge hammer and shake you off your ‘auto-pilot’ existence. His going in principle while reading or writing is that If a poem does not make you think or fails to keep you awake at night, then that poem was not worth reading or writing in the first place is. He believes in simplicity of both choice of words and flow but insists on thought provoking topics to write on. An unlikely poet Neelav is a marketeer by chance and a dreamer by choice. When not busy making corporate presentations, is happy strumming the guitar or wielding a paint brush and sometimes a pen... one often flowing into the other, blurring edges.
